PHP 7.4, released on November 28, 2019, followed the standard PHP release cycle. Each PHP version receives two years of active support for bug fixes and feature updates, followed by two additional years of security support for critical vulnerabilities only.

For PHP 7.4:

  • Active support ended on November 28, 2021.

  • Security support ended on November 28, 2022.

As of now, PHP 7.4 has reached its end of life (EOL) and is no longer supported. This means no further updates, including security patches, will be provided. Users still running PHP 7.4 are strongly advised to upgrade to a supported version, such as PHP 8.1 or PHP 8.2, to avoid potential security risks.

Continuing to run websites or applications on PHP 7.4 may expose them to publicly known security vulnerabilities, compatibility issues, and performance limitations. As new vulnerabilities are discovered, they will not be addressed by the PHP maintainers, which increases the overall security risk for websites still using this version.

To ensure your website remains secure, stable, and fully supported, we strongly recommend upgrading your website or application to a supported PHP version, preferably PHP 8.2 or PHP 8.3, after verifying application compatibility.

  • Verify that your website, CMS, or application supports the target PHP version.
  • Update your CMS, themes, plugins, and extensions to their latest compatible releases.
  • Review any custom-developed code for PHP version compatibility.

  • Test your website thoroughly after the upgrade to ensure all functionality is working correctly.
